The sponsor of this event, Team Smile, said that 217 grade school age children were served during the program.  This year’s community event included dental hygiene students and other individual dental care professionals that volunteered.

“One of the benefits of holding oral health promotion events for the community with young school age children is to make dental care fun and engaging while alleviating any stress or anxiety the kids feel about having their teeth examined, said Heather Eddy, assistant Professor of Dental Hygiene. “Making dental appointments a positive experience, we hope encourages kids to go home and take pride in making sure they have healthy and bright smiles for years to come.”

Clayton State’s Dental Hygiene program annually runs a series of community outreach events between its students and the community, many of which consist of volunteering opportunities. We also offer services at our Clayton State on-campus Dental Hygiene Clinic.

About the Clayton State University Dental Hygiene Clinic

Clayton State’s mission to be an integral part of the local community is evident in the work of our students and faculty in the University’s dental hygiene clinic.

Located on the campus of Clayton State University, the clinic provides dental hygiene services to residents seeking safe, accessible, and affordable preventive oral care.

Additionally, dental hygiene students help promote good oral care and gain practical experience by treating patients under the supervision of dental hygiene faculty members.

The clinic offers several services, including oral health screenings, x-rays, cleanings, fluoride treatment, nutritional counseling, and teeth whitening services.
